Look inside · Chapter One — Understanding chemsex

Chemsex is simply using particular drugs on purpose to change how sex feels or how long it lasts. Some people do it once or twice. Others build it into their social or sexual life more regularly. Many sit in between.

This is not the same as taking something at a party and later having sex. In chemsex the two are planned together. It is also not one fixed behaviour. It exists on a broad spectrum, from occasional experimentation that feels manageable to more frequent patterns that start to affect sleep, mood, work, relationships or health. Seeing it this way helps everyone — people who take part, their partners, parents, friends, and the clinicians who support them — to assess risks honestly without moralising about sex, sexuality, drug use or recovery choices.
